A palette for a small room: five rules that work

Small rooms do not need to be white and empty. They need fewer, better decisions.

In a small room every material is close to the eye, so the palette needs to be calm and consistent. These five rules keep it that way.

1. Go lighter underfoot

A light floor such as ash reflects daylight and makes the room feel wider. If you prefer a warmer wood, natural oak is the next best step.

2. Keep the wall quiet

Warm white or soft gray give you a backdrop. Save deep colors for one wall or a nook.

3. Choose one accent

A single blue piece creates a focal point without clutter. This is the approach behind Quiet Workday.

4. Repeat colors

Repeat each tone at least twice (for example in a cushion, a frame and a lamp) so the room feels planned rather than accidental.

5. Layer light

Use two or three low lamps rather than one overhead light. Even a pale room feels more inviting after dark, as in Soft Landing.

Test the combination in the Studio by uploading a photo of your room and trying ash, warm white and a single accent.

Start with the light.

Before choosing a color, notice where the day arrives in your room. Morning and evening are different designers.
